A Reservoir For Identity and Beyond, reflects on the role of photography in revealing the socio-political nuances of reality in relation to identity. It explores myriad forms of identity: from culture, religion, gender, upbringing to lived experiences, considering how it is constructed and continuously redefined.
The selected works may engage in identity with socio-political themes whilst highlight the growing importance of visual imagery in making sense of an ever-changing, growing society, especially in a socio-geographical city like London.
As such, the exhibition acts as a space for knowledge, where creative and critical approaches translate lived experiences into cultural and social expression. A Reservoir For Identity and Beyond is an open invitation into analysing how identity is constructed over time, shaped by personal narratives and broader cultural frameworks.
About the curator
Sophie Ackroyd
Born in Switzerland, Sophie is an Irish/French artist
based in London.
Her need to photograph and capture is fed by her
artistic enquiries which often feel larger than life:
using a camera to translate this becomes
cathartic. She looks at different approaches in
communicating what she is interested in: film, photography,
writing, socio-political art, anthropology and more.
“Art embodies storytelling, and at the
centre of mine lies intimacy and the realities of day to day life”
