Francesco Ragazzi, ‘Broadway Market’ Claire de Rouen Books

1/2

Since 2015, Ragazzi has been living and working on this ancient drovers’ road that once used to connect Essex and the slaughterhouses of Smithfield.

Today, no slaughterhouse involved, a rich variety of people walks here in droves, especially on market day. Not only on Saturdays, Broadway Market is a meeting place for a new type of inhabitants, those responsible for the gentrification of Hackney. Regazzi has been a witness to this phenomenon, occurring since the early 2000s, and found great interest in watching how locals, new locals and people from all the neighbouring boroughs overlay their lives in this very concentrated habitat.
