Polina Piëch, ‘Painted Winds: Fall at Dawn’

Roman Road

With Painted Winds: Fall at Dawn, Polina Piëch creates a consuming environment, combining a soundscape with two large-scale photographs — No Signal and Through a Layered Path — placed side by side to reflect on the cyclical nature of being. In her practice, Piëch visually captures the world’s sentiments of tactility by choosing the elements such as — water, air, earth, and fire — as her subjects.

For this work, Piëch creates a dialogue between air and earth, in which wind becomes both a physical trace and a measure of time. She asks the viewer to pause and look further. When in front of the works, one stops and sees the season change colour, the same way that dawn announces a new day by changing colours and painting the landscape anew.
