Stella McGarvey, 'Bound'

Stage Gallery McGarvey’s solo show ‘Bound’, Stage Gallery, featured sculptural work and brought together her ongoing photographic series ‘Lovers’. The show was an immersion into her series of analogue photographs of abandoned chairs, shown as slide viewers in hand-built light-boxes. They sat behind the shadowed curtain of the central kinetic sculpture as a representation of its’ memories. Spinning and unfurling, ‘Bound’ was an exploration of bonds, whether they be chosen or inescapable; the anthropomorphic presences of the abandoned chairs standing small and glowing as totems of desire and of inevitability.
